Harry Redknapp feels Alan Smith would be a 'good value' signing for Portsmouth, but would be 'surprised' if he completes a deal for Fredi Kanoute.

Smith is waiting to learn if he figures in Sir Alex Ferguson's plans at Manchester United next season and has been linked with several Premier League clubs.

Portsmouth are also an option and Redknapp feels a deal for the former Leeds United striker would represent value for money.

"It's not my money, but it is my reputation," Redknapp told the News.

Redknapp is also interested in Sevilla forward Kanoute, who he brought to England seven years ago when in charge of West Ham United.

Regarding the likelihood of a deal for the 29-year-old, Redknapp cast doubt on the chances of Kanoute ending up at Fratton Park.

He added: "I don't have to watch Fredi Kanoute to know how good he is. He's a top player, but the money they are asking for is a lot.
