Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster faces a lengthy period out of the game as he prepares to undergo surgery on his cruciate knee ligament.

Foster's knee began to trouble him towards the end of the season, and he was assessed by England and United medical staff after reporting for international duty last month.
