Reds midfielder Michael Carrick knows he needs to contribute more goals now that he has joined United.

Carrick has scored just ten goals in 250 club games during his career so far. At other clubs, it was rarely part of his task as a holding midfield player to get forward and score goals.

He is yet to find the net for the Reds since his £14million move to Old Trafford, but he has been encouraged to become reacquainted with getting into goalscoring positions.

"At Tottenham I played the holding role," he told the PFA's website. "I'd hear ex-pros criticising my goalscoring and I'd laugh. The gaffer was happy with what I was doing and getting into those forward positions wasn't my priority.
